abstract The point cloud can be used for different visualisations. The pictures taken by the scanner’s integrated digital camera show that it is possible to produce views with photographic colours. In figure 47 a frontal view of the pediment, capitals from the front row of columns and the inscription on the frieze can be read [M·AGRIPPA·L·F·COS·TERTIUM·FECIT]. Even areas of damage and drilled holes on the pediment are clearly visible. However, it is impossible to read the second inscription, written by the Severian emperors and concerning the building’s restoration in AD 202, which is found on the front architrave, because of the minuscule size of the script. More detailed views of different elements of the building are possible if one extracts single panels from the point cloud. The bronze letters of the inscription appear as sharp as the areas of damage and the stone structure behind them (fig. 48). By using unreal colours, which support three-dimensional representations, these structures and points of damage can be made clearly visible for the purposes of more detailed research (figs. 49-51). For example, in these views the drilled holes in the pediment can be differentiated from natural damage, and even the different character of singular stones can be seen. Especially in the middle part of the pediment a discrepancy of stone structures between the lower and higher placed blocks is conspicuous (fig. 49). In a comparable photograph of this part of the pediment (fig. 52), these discrepancies are also visible, although analyses of the coloured point cloud allow more precision
